Ultrafab Expands Multi-Fin pile offering – introducing a patented Five Fin Option at Glass Build 2012.

    Multi-fin

Ultrafab first introduced their patented Tri-Fin® product to the market in the year 2000. Earlier this year Ultrafab announced the capability to put the three fins in whatever configuration the customer wants, including all three fins buried within the pile. Triple Finned pile seals typically perform with a 25% reduction in air infiltration over standard center finned pile. Ultrafab’s Tri-Fin® with Ultra Soft Fins® is the logical choice for pile in high performance windows and doors, including those earmarked for sound abatement projects.

Ultrafab’s new Five Fin option is designed for truly extreme applications that require superior sound abatement performance as well as air and water infiltration reduction. A variety of samples will be on display at the Glass Build show in Las Vegas in September. This patented Five Fin product offering will feature the center fin and the two outside fins that Ultrafab’s traditional Tri-Fin® is known for as well as two additional fins spaced out within the pile fibers.

All Multi-Fin pile seals come in standard colors and a wide range of densities, heights and backing options. Product can be inserted during profile extrusion process or in cut to length profile lineals at the fabricator utilizing an Ultrafab provided pile insertion machine (PIM).

Having the capability to place multiple fins in a wide range of positions allows the window designer to work with Ultrafab to develop a multi- fin pile seal that optimizes the performance and aesthetics of the new or redesigned window or door.

Ultrafab Introduces Hybrid Dust Plugs – Combine the performance of pile, extrusions and foam

    dust plug

Ultrafab introduces a new line of dust plugs that are made from multiple materials to address complex sealing needs. Plugs are designed with a foam pad in one area of the plug where straight compression sealing is needed and with pile on another area of the plug where active sealing is needed and the surface being sealed against is moveable. The result is one dust plug that can be used in applications requiring both types of sealing needs.

Hybrid Dust Plugs from Ultrafab can be produced continuous on a reel, kiss cut for quick removal from a continuous backing material or cut to length and ready to install. Multiple adhesive options are available so that the plug can be used on a wide range of substrate materials. High performance 3M adhesives are utilized for the most demanding applications, foamed adhesives for vinyl surfaces and hot melt adhesive for wood surfaces.

Do not settle for an off the shelf standard dust plug when Ultrafab can design a custom Hybrid Dust Plug with multiple sealing capabilities for your specific needs that will improve the overall performance of today’s windows and doors.

Weatherseals are not ONE of the things we do…Weatherseals ARE what we do.

Multi-Hollow Bulb Seal Technology (Patent Pending)

Today’s window and door designs demand a competitively priced seal with low closing forces and long term resiliency that will provide protection against short term and long term air and water infiltration.

Ultrafab, Inc., a global leader in innovative sealing solutions, introduces a new extruded weather sealing option that has been designed to meet or exceed the performance requirements for the most demanding applications. The multi hollow bulb (MHB) seal line utilizes the latest technology in thermal plastic elastomers, and offers both the low closing force of a hollow bulb seal and the long term resiliency of a foam filled seal. The new MHB seal line offers a price point between traditional hollow bulb seals and foam filled seals.

During the early stages of compression the MHB seal requires minimal force. At the later stages of compression the outer bulb makes contact with the inner bulb and closing forces build rapidly to provide excellent sealing pressure against the mating surface. This high level of sealing pressure is what makes the seal extremely effective against air and water infiltration.

The strategic placement of a bulb inside a bulb creates a multi - chambered structure when the bulb is in a compressed state (see figure 1). The three chambers that are created make for improved thermal and sound abatement properties over standard hollow bulb seals.

In cycle testing (5000 cycles) at a compression range of 30% the MHB seal lost the least amount of functional height, when compared to all other commonly used sealing options now on the market, including TPE/TPV and urethane foams.

MHB seals can be fine tuned for specific applications by adjusting the relationship between the inner and outer bulbs. Designers can “dial in” the preferred closing force and seal pressure created at final compression point.

All standard and custom shapes are available in a variety of colors, including white, black, tan or brown. Seals can also be produced with a low friction surface on the critical contact areas for sliding and tilting applications. The rigid or base portion of the seal can be manufactured with talc-filled materials to reduce stretching during insertion or expansion and contraction in demanding applications. Product is also heat weldable and fully recyclable.
