The Annual Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance – FGIA membership meeting took place in Orlando, Florida, from February 17th to 20th. During the event, Ultrafab, Inc. was honored with the prestigious 50 Years of Distinguished Service Award. Alan DeMello, President and CEO of Ultrafab, was present to accept the award.

For five decades, Ultrafab has played a crucial role in developing technical standards, particularly those related to the performance requirements for weatherseals used in various fenestration products. Since the early 1990s, Ultrafab has been actively involved in the task group responsible for creating and continuously improving the 701/702 standards for weatherseals. The latest standard, 701/702-2003, was developed with significant contributions from Richie Dean and Steve Coriddi of Ultrafab and was recently approved by the entire FGIA organization

Standard 701 focuses on pile-type weatherseals, while 702 addresses extruded weatherseals. Both standards include detailed parameters that weatherseals must meet to achieve ratings ranging from “A” (the highest) to “D” (the minimum). All weatherseals sold by Ultrafab meet or exceed the “A” rating, demonstrating the company’s commitment to using high-quality raw materials and proved processing techniques to manufacture superior weatherseals that perform exceptionally well in their applications.

The performance ratings of Ultrafab’s sealing products are also listed on the Verified Component List (VCL). This allows designers and engineers selecting sealing options for their FGIA-certified units to understand the actual performance levels achieved by the seals. This transparency is crucial for customers who aim to meet or exceed performance standards and provide warranties for their fenestration products.

As technology advances and performance standards for Fenestration products continue to rise, Ultrafab’s representatives will remain actively engaged with FGIA members to refine and enhance the 701/702 standards. At the recent meetings, it was decided that further refinements are needed, and Ultrafab’s Richie Dean, Product Manager for Fenestrations Products, will lead this effort as the Task Group Chair.
